The assistant quickly retrieved the sticks that fell, but to recover the last one, he had to reach his arm into the same brazier. He burned himself with the brightly lit flame and in that moment, he had a vision, and the bamboo pulled out had the imprint of the apprentice wizard's hand. From that moment on, the bamboo remained flaming for life.
